About Us
Family Connection-Communities In Schools of Hancock County Inc. is a community-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that was established in 2001. We are the leading non-profit organization in the community that collaborates by coordinating programs and services and sharing resources to support children and families. For FY 2021-2022 the collaborative focus is on a health and early childhood literacy strategy that targets children ages 0 to 8 and their families.

To ensure that the Collaborative is functional, we will define the roles and responsibilities with our partners in health to include substance misuse and early childhood literacy work. We will work to ensure that the Hancock County school principals, John Hancock Academy, the Head Start Staff, and the North Central Health District are more involved in the collaborative work and to have a better understanding on how important it is to share data from reading assessments to be used to measure student success by third grade.
Currently, we have more than 40 partners dedicated to bring about an awareness of early childhood literacy, families eating healthier and substance misuse in the community. The Collaborative will work to fill the gap surrounding early language and literacy and families and children improving their health and becoming more aware of the need to keep prescription drugs out of reach of children. We will do this by recruiting additional partners such as faith-based leaders, local farmers, the Sheriff’s department, local drug task force and other healthcare organizations to provide services and support to those families in the target population.
